The cloth modifier and cloth simulation in 3ds Max is great for creating really natural looking models relatively easily. In this case, it makes it extremely easy to model a realistic cushion. I explore this technique, plus many many more in my Furniture Masterclass course. There I use the cloth modifier, plus every other technique one would need to create awesome furniture. I also show you the proper workflows for getting high detail, but not so high polygon count. You've all seen those awesome furniture models out there on the internet. Now, learn to make them yourself.

There are many different techniques and software packages available out there for modeling really nice furniture in 3ds Max. In this case, we are sticking strictly to tools within 3ds Max -- the cloth modifier. However, this is just a preview lecture from a larger course. That course, all about poly modeling techniques for high detail objects -- including furniture -- using several different projects. This particular preview lecture shows you how to make a very organic, and realistic pillow for a chair or couch, allowing the cloth simulation to do all the heavy lifting. This techniques allow you to model in natural folds and wrinkles, making the cushion model very real looking. I think the end result is pretty good!
